What is the reason behind it?  Obviously, that all happens due to simply lacking in listening power skills. Listening to power skills can be developed or it can be improved too. The only thing we have to do is to change our old habits and switches to new ones.

  1. Listen carefully with the intention to understand

We should try to listen to the other person carefully with the intention to understand not just to hear them out. What most of us do is just to hear them out. We never really give it a try to understand their thinking or feelings. That the root cause of all of our problems. Instead of hearing them out, we should try to understand them to avoid misunderstanding or hard feeling for another person in our mind. Misunderstanding destroys a healthy relationship in the workplace as well as in family too.

  1. Process what you have heard before replying back

One of the simplest way to enhance your listening skill is to ‘Process what you have heard before replying back’. What mistakes most of us perform is that we never think before answering to the other person. This the step where the arguments or fight start from. We gave chance to another person to fight back with us. Stop giving a prompt answer instead take your time to process the piece what you have just heard then reply back.  Be an active listener.

  1. Ask questions to avoid misunderstandings

What can you do to avoid misunderstanding with the help of your listening skills? Have to ever gave it a thought about it or try to find a solution to overcome this barrier. What can we do, is to ask the right questions or clarifying questions from the other person get a hold on a better understanding?

  1. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes

Before doing anything or saying anything bad or badmouth about anybody we should try to put ourselves first into the same situation to understand it better. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes is not an easy task but until you will not feel the same thing, you won’t be able to understand them clearly.

  1. Try to understand the person’s viewpoint too

Try to give up the need to be right every time. Instead of proving the other person statement wrong you should try to understand the other person’s viewpoint too. Nobody is always gone be right forever but by doing this we can improve our lives. We can have more peace in life too.

  1. Stop multitasking

Stop being a multitasker. While having a conversation with anybody try not to play with our cell phones or let any other thing distract you. Multitasking doesn’t let you focus on one thing at a time. It can lead to much bigger problems in near future too.
